I have visited some pretty great butcher shops over the years where I have lived and places I visited. I love food and cooking however, “quality” food is necessary for the BEST possible dish or meal. Lorain’s Fligner’s Meat Market has been in business for nearly a century. These days we see a plethora of grocery chains and big box stores that offer the food industry’s most heinously produced food from that which is over processed to genetically modified, monopolizing and exclusively providing for our ever growing population in the quickest most profitable way. A self-owned and operated business is nearly extinct in our quests of consumerism today. And, if one would happen to find such a place, big corporate will ensure it won’t stay for very long. Self-owned and operated businesses that have survived in present times are surely unique and commendable. They must have products that prove worthy to our conveniently driven society. Fligner’s Meat Market has been my family’s favorite destination for meat and produce for five generations. We are an eclectic family culturally and Fligner’s never fails to provide for our heritages’ culinary needs. They have taken our special requests and will find it if they do not carry it and/or cut meat to fit your needs. Need a cow tongue? That was one of my grandfather’s requests I would pick up for him. Their produce is also the freshest available and is butchered right on location. Their selection is vast and you choose your purchases yourselves. It’s all there, right in front of you, not pre-packaged so you can see and inspect everything first. They support local farmers and select their meats themselves. When visiting this meat market, you take a step back in the past when courtesy and customer service is truly valued. It’s not a time forsaken experience where you are just a number (although, you must get a ticket at the meat counter for service lol), employees greet you, ask you if you need help, are knowledgeable of what is available and where to find it and they respectfully pack and escort your purchase to your vehicle and load it for you! Hands down, Fligner’s Meat Market, is THE BEST BUTCHER SHOP! I’ll even guarantee it!
