Bistro 70

When designing the tabletop at Bistro 70, Chef/Owner Keith Koenig desired to create an atmosphere that was casual enough for an afternoon lunch, yet upscale enough for an elegant dinner.
He wanted to give people a place they could frequent for any occasion and at the same time, not sacrifice the service or ambiance one would find at a fine dining establishment.
Bistro 70, deriving its name from its address, 70 N. Saint Clair in Historic Downtown Painesville, was at one time a 1940's Nash Rambler car dealer. Since then, the space has been used as a bank, coffee house, and restaurant. Before painting bold colors such as sunset-gold, huckleberry-blue, maple-red, and golden-gate on the walls and trim, he had to rip out an old-style mantle, walls, oak paneling, as well as the old oak bar. The space was redesigned to be warm, comfortable and beautiful.
The number of different levels and spaces are key elements in accomplishing the “casual-upscale” dining experience. One could spend an afternoon lunch by the “windows”, a comfortable cove with the soft glow of sleek shaped hanging lights, or on the “dance-floor” separated from the bar by a curvy wall to offer privacy, but accompanied by the openness of 40' ceilings, and the historical character of the hardwood floor.
Perfect for a romantic dinner party, the upstairs loft area is quiet and intimate with fine, white linens adorning the tables. Whether sitting at the granite topped bar with mahogany chairs, or in a cozy nook upstairs, the creative architecture, vibrant use of color, and popular artwork by well known artists such as Picasso and Kandinsky create an atmosphere easy to enjoy.
The lounge offers yet another location to enjoy an evening out. Whether it is relaxing on the leather couches enjoying a glass of wine or cheering on your favorite team in front of the 40” Plasma with a cold brew. The lounge also makes a perfect location for a more private lunch or dinner meeting with the French doors to offer added privacy.
Having quality service with fine American cuisine at a daytime lunch, dinner by candle light, or catered event will not be forgotten at the beautiful, new, contemporary Bistro 70.
