Sweet Mango was started by a group of friends that grew up together in the same town - Petchaboon - in Central Thailand. About 16 or 17 years ago, some of them came to the United States and lived in Boston, MA. They worked in separate restaurants and did their own thing, but maintained their friendship. Others of their group of friends came to the States at a later time from northern Thailand.
In 2003, one of the founders, Nick, moved to Ohio and worked in Asian restaurants for a year in the Cleveland area until he got to know the area. He decided to go into business together with his friends from Boston, and so he convinced them all to move to Ohio to open a Thai restaurant; they selected the Strongsville location. The restaurant opened in August 2007.
The founding group, Nick, Eek and Chef Dang, take turns working in the kitchen, and often time, Nick is in the front of the restaurant to take care of the customer service. With Eek and Chef Dang's talent and knowledge in Thai cooking, they are able to combine the flavors of Northern and Central Thailand together in their cuisine to produce original and innovative dishes. The music played in the restaurant is also traditional Thai orchestra music, mostly from Northern Thailand.
